Communities in Bloom

Killarney/Turtle Mountain Communities in Bloom

Killarney has several parks, green spaces, a swimming beach/splash park, playgrounds and walking trails that are perfect for a picnic or stroll. Each year, Killarney CiB works to enhance the community through green space development, environmental initiatives, floral displays, heritage conservation, landscaping, urban forestry and much more. The Communities in Bloom 19 member committee is very active and productive, everyone welcome! The communities private, municipal and business sectors come together to make Killarney neat, beautiful and be the best that it can be.

The local Communities in Bloom program started in 2003. Killarney has been very successful over the years in the Provincial program, National program and has now moved up to the International program. We have received the Outstanding Achievement Youth Award twice.

The program focus is divided into the following sections with community involvement being included in each of these sections. (1) Tidiness (2) Environmental Action (3) Heritage Conservation (4) Urban Forestry (5) Landscape (6) Floral Displays. The program aims to leave a great impression with visitors and local residents. The streets are clean, roadways are manicured and entrance landscaping and floral displays are breathtaking. Great emphasis is placed on the comprehensive tree management plan to reduce tree loss and increase reforestation.

Killarney CiB is very excited about the brand-new greenspace and park on Broadway. Keith’s Korner (named for Killarney Foundation founder Keith Heming) showcases our agricultural heritage. A metal sculpture, trees, benches, rain garden, eco grass and walkway are incorporated along the CP rail line.

Killarney Turtle Mountain has many wonderful greenspaces and parks to allow everyone to get outdoors, have a picnic, swim at the beach, play in the splash park, use adult outdoor exercise equipment…... and so much more!
